With a love of science and mathematics, she decided to pursue graduate studies in science when she was in junior high school. She went on to Department of Physics at Tohoku University, and she finally obtained a PhD. Then, She had researched on semiconductors at a private company. The performance of semiconductors depends on the materials they use and the impurities they contain. Prof. Kanata is working on developing semiconductors with better performance by computer simulation based on quantum mechanics. She has been a professor at Tohoku University Center for Innovative Integrated Electronic Systems since May 2020. She is actively involved in the Japan Women Engineers Forum (JWEF), holding industrial technology study sessions.
